One of the most common methods of cutting weight is to take a hot bath. However, this method is hated by many fighters for a number of reasons.
Heat Acclimation
One of the biggest reasons why fighters hate using the bath to cut weight is because they don not heat acclimate in fight camp. Heat acclimation is the process of gradually exposing the body to higher and higher temperatures in order to prepare it for competing in hot conditions for example the water cut.
Temperature Monitoring
Another reason why fighters hate using the bath to cut weight is because they don’t monitor the temperature of the bath, meaning it is often wayyyyy too hot. For the sake of 10 bucks buy a bloody thermometer from the chemist and monitor the temp. This is important because if the temperature is too high, it can actually lead to burns. Fighters who are cutting weight are often dehydrated and fatigued, which makes it even more difficult for them to monitor the temperature of the bath without a thermometer
Old Myths
Many fighters also hate using the bath to cut weight because they follow old myths about weight cutting. One of the most common myths is that wearing a sweatsuit in the bath will help you to lose more weight. However, this is simply not true. In fact, wearing a sweatsuit in the bath can increase your risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
